Oro, The Incredible Dog

Will Jacobs, a high school history teacher, wins millions on the lottery, and his good fortune continues while on a camping trip with Lea, his lady friend. He befriends Oro, a golden retriever. Oro is not your average dog, for he possesses the extraordinary ability to read human thought. Oro has never been able to act upon what comes to him, until he runs across Will.

In a chance meeting, Oro is amazed to find that Will "hears" his thoughts (as no other human has done before), and they are able to communicate with each other. In a lucky break for man and beast, Will becomes Oro's owner, and the duo teams up to put their unique association to productive uses in helping other people with their problems, both small and large, and several major dilemmas are either solved or corrected by Oro, Will and Lea.

Will and Lea are out shopping for a camping trailer and have been looking around for quite awhile at one RV dealership, when a female salesperson finally came out to help them... sort of.

"What can I sell you guys, today?"

I was immediately put off for several reasons: her attitude, her attire, her aroma and her comment using the word "guys".

"We were wondering about the pros and cons in comparing your conventional pull behind campers to the 5th wheel types."

"Yes," she replied.

"Well, what are the pros and cons?"

"Maybe I should let you talk to John."

"OK, we'll talk to John."

"John is on lunch break and will be back at 2:00."

"But it's only a few minutes after 11:00."

She had no comment, but looked like she would much rather be inside in front of the air conditioner.

Will decides to host a meet and greet luncheon with his known relatives at a local all-you-can-eat restaurant. He will discuss how he plans to divvy out a good chunk of his lottery winnings to those present.

My mother was delighted to ramrod the event. Putting her in charge was a no brainer, since she had contact info of our not so close family members. I was surprised to learn that all those contacted were in attendance. Maybe, though, that wasn't so surprising, since no one wished to be left out of the possibility of receiving a bundle of free money from their millionaire kin.

In a makeshift welcome line, I received so many slaps on the back from people I hardly knew, that my shoulders began to ache. The head count for adults totaled thirty-two, with the oldest being a 94 year uncle. He was a long-retired minister, who led us in an uncomfortably lengthy grace.

Mom told me all the family's offspring had showed up, too. Those children numbered twenty-one and ran in ages from an infant of six-months up to a number of teens in high school and a few college students.

After the free-for-all lunch, I tapped on a glass with my knife to bring the group's attention to the matter at hand. The crowd immediately went silent, as if someone had turned the room's audio to "mute". A total of 103 eyes were aimed at me. The number was two shy of being unanimous, for the baby was asleep.

If you are quick at math, you might have wondered why the eyeball count was an odd number. Well, Uncle Robert only has one eye.
